Sean became interested in intellectual property law because it combines scientific, legal, and business principles. While in graduate school, Sean came to understand that creative science and dedication in the laboratory, alone, are not enough to produce successful biotherapeutics. Enforceable intellectual property rights, tailored to fit a client’s particular business model, are essential to allow an invention to flourish in the marketplace. As an associate in the litigation and patent prosecution practice groups in the firm's Philadelphia Office, Sean applies his legal and scientific knowledge to assist clients in pursuing business ventures by procuring and protecting their intellectual property rights.
Sean’s scientific training and research experience provide him with expertise in a variety of biotechnology-related fields, such as immunology, virology, and cell biology, to name a few. His work has been presented at national and international scientific meetings and published in journals such as the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the Unites States of America and the Journal of Virology.
As a law student, Sean tailored his coursework to further his understanding of intellectual property law. He received numerous academic excellence awards, including selection by the College of Law’s faculty as the 2007 Merchant & Gould Excellence in Intellectual Property Award recipient (awarded to the College of Law’s most outstanding intellectual property student). Sean’s understanding of intellectual property law was also enhanced by his two-time selection to the College of Law’s Trademark Moot Court Team, where he and his teammates were national finalists, and also earned awards for best oral argument and best brief. Following his second year on the team, the College of Law’s faculty elected Sean to the Order of the Barristers, for his demonstrated excellence in oral advocacy and brief writing.
